The two-year-old daughter of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett died on April 30 after drowning in the family swimming pool.
The team took to social media and issued a heartbreaking statement about the youngster’s sudden passing.
“Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna, and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time,” the statement read.
“While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah,” they continued.
Police rushed to the scene after a child reportedly fell into the family pool at around 9:30 am on Sunday.
Arrayah was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities are currently investigating the girl’s death but according to the Tampa Bay Times, it is believed to be a tragic incident.
Arrayah was the youngest of the four children Barrett shared with his wife Jordanna.
Football teams and professionals sent their tributes and condolences to the grieving family.
Barrett’s former team, the Denver Broncos, wrote on Twitter: “#BroncosCountry is with you, Shaq & the entire Barrett family.”
San Francisco 49ers said: “Sending our thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt condolences to the Barrett family.”
NFL Insider Field Yates wrote: “Thinking of the Barrett family during this heartbreaking time.”
It was in 2014 when Barrett entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Denver Broncos. Before the 2019 season, he signed a one-year deal with the Buccaneers and had a career year with a league-leading 19.5 sacks.
