Peyton Hillis was reportedly discharged from the hospital following a near-death experience that left him in intensive care.
The 36-year-old former NFL star nearly died from damage to his kidneys and lungs after rescuing his children from drowning at Florida’s Pensacola Beach earlier this month.
While his kids made it out of the traumatic experience without major health complications, the ex-running back was airlifted to hospital as a result of damage to his organs.
Now, Hillis’s sister shared a cheerful update in which she revealed that the former NFL star has now been discharged from the hospital.
Hayley Davis also thanked God for protecting her brother throughout this ordeal as she insisted “everything health-wise” was looking great.
“Our lives were rocked (for the second time this year) on January 4th, in a blink of an eye.
I remember one second I was thinking about what a beautiful day it was and thanking God for this time at the beach with my family and wishing Matt was there, to the next second being yards out from shore, terrified with Camille thinking ‘how did I get here?’ and looking at our beautiful Mille and thinking she’s why! I’d do anything for her,” Davis wrote as she recalled the incident at the beach.“God was truly with us that day. He guided us and protected us all and I am so thankful for his provision. I’ll never forget the relief I felt when I saw my mama coming towards me and helping me out of the water. She literally had to pull me by my hair because I couldn’t lift my arm up to her but man, it was the best hair pull of my life!!!!
“I remember seeing her and just knowing how much she loved me. So deeply and pure! I’ll never forget my mama’s love for me and my brothers. There is truly nothing like a mother’s love and I’m so thankful to have mine.”
Davis continued: “I remember seeing Peyt laid out on the sand unable to move and my mom having to run back and forth between us as the medics helped each of us.
“I can’t imagine the feelings my parents were having— 2 sons air flighted within 4 months and their daughter being taken by ambulance. They have each remained so calm and positive through this and I’m so proud of them for being so strong. Being a parent ain’t for the weak, that’s for sure.”
Speaking out was also Peyton’s partner, Angela Cole, who revealed that the athlete isn’t hooked to the ventilator anymore and that he is “on the road to recovery.”
Our thoughts are with Peyton and the family as his recovery continues.
