A beloved news anchor passed away suddenly after suffering a medical emergency at the age of just 38.
Amanda Hanson was a Memphis TV news anchor and the face of the Action News 5 station based in Tennessee who died from complications stemming from her medical emergency.
While details of her health problems remain unclear, it is believed that the 38-year-old succumbed to her mystery illness shortly after the emergency took place.
“We are devastated to announce the loss of our colleague Amanda Hanson. Amanda, a beloved journalist, Memphian, colleague and friend, joined the Action News 5 team in 2021 and was the driving force behind the Action News 5 Digital Desk,” Action News 5 confirmed in a Thursday statement.
“She worked tirelessly to build that coverage behind the scenes with her own bottomless well of energy and creativity.”
The station also paid tribute to Amanda saying she had an innovative spirit, infectious energy, and unwavering dedication to her work.
Confirming the tragic occurrence was also her former K8 colleague Justin Logan who wrote: “I’m heartbroken to share that my dear friend, longtime colleague and Dance Party Friday buddy, Amanda Hanson has died. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers.”
The saddening news comes shortly after Hanson married Darren Nierdermyer. As her colleagues suggested, her relationship brought her “immense joy.”
Native to Memphis, Hanson kicked off her career working as a K8 news anchor for KAIT from 2010 to 2015 and from 2018 to 2021. She then moved back to her hometown to take over the role of Leader of Digital Innovation.
“She was a light. She was kind. She helped everyone. She loved people. What you saw on TV was who she was. She was my dear friend and I’m just heartbroken. I’m so thankful for the memories, so many wonderful memories,” Logan added.
“I know her location. She’s in heaven dancing with Jesus and watching over all of us. I love and miss you, Amanda. Thank you for being a friend!”
