Authorities are investigating the death of a newborn baby who was found inside the bathroom of a fast-food restaurant.
Phoenix police are looking for a woman after an infant boy was found dead at Phoenix McDonald’s bathroom near 33rd Avenue and Indian School Road around 2 pm on Sunday. Investigators released surveillance video of her on Monday afternoon.
Police responded to the restaurant after getting a call about someone hurt and found the infant. Despite life-saving efforts on the baby, Firefighters later declared the child, whose age and identity have not been released, died at the scene.
Homicide detectives released surveillance footage of a person who was seen leaving the bathroom shortly before the newborn baby was found, but have said there are no suspects in the case so far.
According to the Arizona Republic, the surveillance footage shows a woman in a black Calvin Klein T-shirt, black pants, and sandals exiting the bathroom before the baby was found.
An investigation into the infant’s death was ongoing, and no further updates were released as of Tuesday night. KTVK reported that authorities believe there are witnesses who left the restaurant before their arrival.
According to police, there are no suspects in custody, and autopsy results are pending. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Phoenix Police Department.
Meanwhile, a McDonald’s cashier has been accused of trying to drown her newborn baby in the bathroom stall.
According to court documents, on Labor Day, Sarah Lockner, 25, was apparently suffering from stomach pains, when she left her shift and went into the bathroom stall.
Co-workers eventually checked on her and found a pile of blood on the floor, and a baby’s face.Lockner argued that it was just a bad period that had caused the blood and told witnesses that nobody should call the police. When found by authorities, the baby had no pulse and wasn’t breathing.
After police performed CPR, the baby was rushed to Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford and was put into a coma. Fortunately, prosecutors say the baby will survive but are not sure about possible brain damage.
Lockner claims she did not know she was pregnant and is currently being held on $11 million bail, with attempted murder and inflicting great bodily harm to a child. She is due back in court next Monday.
