A newborn baby girl was found covered in cuts and insects after she was left abandoned in a forest for days.
The infant, who was just two days old when she was discovered by the locals, was found in a thick forest near a small village in Krabi, Thailand.
The newborn baby was found by the locals after they heard her cries while rubber tapping in the area. At the time of the discovery, the baby was reportedly covered in maggots and insects and wasn’t wearing anything.
It is believed that the child was lying among densely populated banana plants for two days with nothing to protect her from the insects and the harsh climate.
After the villagers discovered the poor infant, they waited with her until the police and paramedics arrived at the scene.
Following her miracle survival, the baby girl was taken to a hospital where she was put under observation and treated for dehydration. She is expected to make a full recovery despite being subjected to extreme temperatures for two days.
The police have since launched an investigation. There is, however, little hope of finding the newborn’s biological parents as there are no cameras in the area.
“The newborn girl had worms and insects crawling over her body. The nearest hospital records showed that no women had given birth there,” Police Colonel Prasit Yodthong said.
“It is likely that the mother gave birth elsewhere and abandoned the child in the middle of the hill.”
He added: “We are currently tracking down the newborn’s mother. She will be prosecuted. The baby could have died and we think that whoever left the girl, knew this.
“We think that the baby had been left outside for at least two days. She was there for a whole night but survived. Officers are interviewing people from nearby villagers to try and find anyone who was pregnant recently.”
