American YouTube star and philanthropist MrBeast has revealed he almost ended up on the doomed Titanic sub after receiving an invitation earlier this month.
According to one of the pioneers of viral videos centered around expensive stunts – whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson – he received an invitation to join OceanGate’s expedition to the Titanic earlier this month.
“I’m going to the Titanic in a submarine late this month. The team would be stoked to have you along,” the alleged message the YouTuber received read.
Speaking of the invite, MrBeast said: “I was invited earlier this month to ride the Titanic submarine, I said no. Kind of scary that I could have been on it.”
Jimmy’s big reveal comes after the deaths of five Titan crew members were confirmed on Thursday.
Among the passengers who died when the sub imploded just two hours into its journey were OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, billionaire Hamish Harding, Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, and Shahzada’s son Suleman Dawood.
According to the reports, the crew died “instantly” after the vessel imploded some 12,000 underwater just under two hours after it descended into the Atlantic to visit the Titanic wreckage.
“The debris is consistent with the catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber. Upon this determination we immediately notified the families,” Rear Admiral John Mauger of the US Coast Guard said Thursday.
“On behalf of the Coast Guard and the entire unified command, I offer my deepest condolences to the families.”
It was since the tragedy revealed that OceanGate CEO was warned about Titan’s safety and urged to get the sub classed through independent inspection by several experts in the industry in the years leading to the high-profile disaster.
