A young motocross star was killed in front of horrified viewers in a freak accident during a race.
20-year-old Brayden Erbacher was an aspiring motocross rider from Ipswich, Queensland, who was competing on a racetrack in Wonthaggi, Victoria, when a small slip-up cost him his life.
According to the reports, the young man fell during a launch off at around 11 am on Sunday before being struck and seriously injured by another ProMX Championship participant.
Despite receiving immediate treatment for his head injury on the scene, Brayden could not be saved and was later pronounced dead.
Following the tragic accident, hundreds of spectators were left speechless and all of the upcoming events for the day were canceled.
“Brayden touched the lives of so many and we were so proud to call him our son,” the 20-year-old’s grieving mom said.
“He was a larrikin, and was at his happiest on his bike, playing his guitar and just hanging out with his family and his mates. His passing has left a void that can never be filled.
Paying a tribute to the young man was also fellow motocross star and competitor Max Barrass who dubbed Brayden as a “genuine person” who “had a lot to give for the people around him.”
“He had a bright future ahead for his motocross career. He always came up for a chat to catch up when I saw him around and was a very down-to-earth guy,” Barrass said in an interview with the Herald Sun.
Another friend of the racer said: “Today we lost an incredible human. You were an absolute champion. I love you so much and you will forever be with us.”
Our thoughts are with Brayden’s family and friends during this challenging time.
