The heartbroken mother of the 19-year-old who was tragically killed in Titanic submersible ‘was not told’ about the possibility of an implosion while waiting in agony for the vessel to resurface.
Her husband, billionaire Shazada Dawood, and their son, Suleman, were two of the five people aboard the sub called Titan when the vessel suffered a ‘catastrophic implosion.’
According to reports, sounds ‘consistent with an implosion’ had been detected soon after Titan stopped providing alerts to its mother ship.
However, it was deemed ‘not definitive’ and the information was not made public until debris were discovered.
Christine Dawood, the grieving wife and mother of Shahzada and Suleman, said that she believed the father and son would still be okay despite losing communication.
But after 96 hours, she started losing hope and it was only followed by a call from the US Coastguard confirming that debris were found.
Her daughter Alina, 17, tried to hold out a bit longer until the heartbreaking call from the US Coast Guard.
It was then reported that Titan suffered a catastrophic implosion and that the five people on board were all killed.
“We had loads of hope, that was the only thing that got us through it because we were hoping,” Christina expressed.
“We all thought they are just going to come up so that shock was delayed by about 10 hours or so.
“By the time they were supposed to be up again, there was a time…. when they were supposed to be up on the surface again and when that time passed the real shock, not shock but the worry and the not so good feelings started.”
Cpt Neubauer said during a press conference in Boston that salvage operations are ongoing and investigators have mapped the accident site.
