A 55-year-old woman and her two sons have been arrested after her ‘missing’ husband was found under a shed on their property.
According to US Marshals Service officials in Flagstaff, Brenda Rasmussen, Andrew Jones, 34, and Danny Jones, 31, were taken into custody in Fort Mohave.
They are the three suspects in the murder of Jerry Rasmussen, 64, in Stevens County, Washington.
Jerry was shot in the head and buried under the newly installed shed before Brenda reported her husband missing on September 27 last year.
During the investigation, a cadaver dog brought to the property alerted officers to the shed.
Search warrants were served and a decomposing body matching the missing person was found under the shed. An autopsy ruled a gunshot wound to the head as the cause of death.
The sheriff’s office said in a press release: “She provided information that they had been arguing recently, he left on his own and had been known to leave and be gone for extended periods in the past.”
But a neighbor said that Brenda told people in their neighborhood a different story about her husband’s whereabouts.
Speaking to KREM2, Gary said: “She told the ladies living around here that Jerry went to California on a business trip and that she hoped that he would be alright.”
After questioning other family members, authorities said they became ‘suspicious’ of the circumstances surrounding the victim’s disappearance.
By mid-November, detectives identified Brenda and her sons as suspects. Cadaver dogs taken to the property showed the presence of the smell of human remains coming from the shed that had been built on the property around the time of the victim’s disappearance.
