The grieving mother of Gabby Petito said that Brian Laundrie’s notebook confession about why he ended her life was a lie.

Laundrie said in his notebook that he killed his fiancée as an act of mercy after she fatally injured herself.

But Nichole Schmidt told the Today show that the purported confession was “100% untrue.”

In Laundrie’s notebook confession, he claimed Petito was in agonizing pain after falling in a creek.

“I found her breathing barely, gasping, she was freezing cold, we had just come from the blazing hot national parks in Utah,” he wrote.

“The temperature had dropped to freezing and she was soaking wet. I carried her as far as I could down the stream towards the car, stumbling, exhausted in shock, when I knew I couldn’t safely carry her.”

“That’s ridiculous. We know how she died,” Schmidt expressed, adding that the confession story was his attempt to maintain his ‘good guy’ character.

“Even in his last moments he wanted to make sure he looked like the good guy,” she said.

The grieving mother previously shared a photo on social media that said ‘narcissists rewrite history,’ adding the hashtags ‘justice for Gabby,’ ‘the truth will be revealed,’ and ‘selfish.’

Authorities said that she died by manual strangulation and her death was ruled a homicide.

Laundrie’s skeletal remains were then discovered on a nature reserve in Florida near his parents home in North Port. Reports say that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The grieving family, who set up the Gabby Petito Foundation in the wake of their daughter’s tragic death, also announced a $100,000 donation to the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

“It’s hard. We’re trying, we’re trying to do good for Gabby, and for everybody else,” she added.
