A mother-of-two tragically died after being mauled by her American Bully XL dog while her partner was left with severe injuries.

Joanne Robinson, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene after her pet, called Rocco, attacked her at around 10 pm at their house in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

Her partner Jamie Stead, 42, was also left with serious injuries to his face, stomach, and hands when he tried to remove the dog from her.

Joanne’s grieving mother, Dotty Robinson, said that the whole family are in ‘disbelief and shock’ over her daughter’s tragic death.

“I want everyone to know how well loved she was. She was born and bred in this village. They all know her and love her,” she said.

Speaking to The Sun, she said that Rocco, Joanne’s dog, has already been destroyed.

Flowers have been placed on the railings outside the couple’s house as shocked neighbors have spoken of their horror and disbelief.

Neighbor John Allerton, 69, said: “It’s really really tragic.”

A friend said: “I’m devastated. She was a lovely lady. They are a lovely family.”

Cards and floral tributes have been left outside the house where the couple lived.

One note from her grieving children read: “Mom I love and miss you.”

A statement from authorities said: “We were called to a property on Masefield Road in West Melton at about 10.15pm last night by a member of the public stating a dog had attacked himself and a woman.

“Officers attended with a Yorkshire Ambulance [Service] crew and found a man, aged 42, with a potentially life-altering injury to one hand, plus injuries to his other hand, abdomen and face. He was transported to hospital for further treatment.

“The woman, aged 43, had been fatally bitten and despite the best efforts of emergency crews was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

“The dog, plus another dog at the property, were secured by specially trained officers. Neither dog was of a banned breed.”

This is not the first time Bully XL dogs attacked and killed people. In March, police confirmed that Bella-Rae Birch, a 17-month-girl, was tragically killed in her home.
