Two young boys who were killed by their own mother in a shocking murder case have been pictured.
44-year-old mother-of-two Kara Alexander was arrested after the police arrived at her home in Dagenham, England, and found her two sons – 2-year-old Elijah Thomas and 5-year-old Marley Thomas – deceased.
According to the reports, the boys’ father, Selvin Thomas, burst into Alexander’s home and found his two sons lying “cold to the touch” in their bedroom upstairs after their mom assured him they were just sleeping.
Following the disturbing find, the man called the police who arrived at the family home and arrested the mother.
While the boys’ cause of death has yet to be confirmed pending a post-mortem, it is believed that their mother might have drowned them or smothered them in their sleep.
“Post mortem results have not yet obtained. Initial subtle findings indicate the normal mechanics of breathing had been interfered with, which could include smothering and drowning,” Prosecutor Philip Evans KC revealed.
Alexander has since been charged with two counts of murder and appeared in court to confirm her name.
“The children were last seen alive by CCTV footage together with the defendant late in the afternoon of 15 December. On 16 December at around 2 pm police were called because the children’s father was concerned for their welfare,” Evans added.
“He had gone into the house, having forced his way in, he was told the children were upstairs asleep. But when he went to find them he discovered they were obviously deceased and cold to the touch.”
As of this writing, the motive for the shocking murders remains unclear.
The police also confirmed that the man who was previously arrested in connection to the case has since been released.
“This is clearly an extremely distressing incident with many unanswered questions, however at this very early stage, nobody else is sought in connection with the deaths,” Detective Inspector Sean Treweek previously said.
