The grieving mother of a 44-year-old actor who was found dead inside a buried trunk in a property allegedly rented by his friend has spoken out.
It was in February when Jefferson Machado was reported missing after his mother, Maria Das Dores, became worried when he stopped calling her and was only sending her text messages.
The last time she saw her son was on January 27 and they last spoke on the phone on January 29.
Since then, Das Dores received only text messages from her ‘son,’ who explained that he could not call because his phone was damaged.
On May 22, Machado’s lifeless body was found in a trunk that had been buried under concrete in a rented property in Campo Grande.
The grieving mother has now claimed that her son was killed by conmen who had promised him work but just wanted to take his mother.
She also believes that the conmen were after her son’s car and house as he had recently won a lawsuit.
In an interview with outlet G1, Das Dores said: “He believed in these false friends who led him to believe he was going to make it, even taking money (from him). He was deceived, totally deceived, he died thinking he was going to join Globo (a Brazilian media conglomerate).”
She also believed that the conmen were leading her son all along. “It was a complete deception,” she expressed. “I said, ‘My son, this is not going to work, they can’t do it, who is this guy to do it?
“He would answer me that they had friends and that they would make it, thinking that someone from inside would help.”
The Rio de Janeiro State Civil Police think that the 44-year-old may have been killed after he found out that he was being swindled.
The autopsy was unable to determine the cause of death due to severe decomposition but authorities believe Machado was killed in his home before the body was taken to the outhouse of another property.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the family’s attorney wrote: “It is with regret that I share the sad news of the passing of actor Jeff Machado, whose body was found with strangulation signs.
“This discovery confronts us with the cruelty present in our society, motivating us to seek truth and justice in the face of such impactful cases.”
The attorney added: “Preliminary information indicates that the actor’s body was found in a trunk, buried in a hole of considerable depth. This situation deeply saddens us and indignant in the face of the suffering faced by Jeff.”
