The abusive Colorado mother who neglected her daughter and faked her illness to raise donations has been jailed.
44-year-old Kelly Turner was arrested after it came to light that she abused her child, Olivia, and faked her terminal illness to get her hands on more than $100,000 and less than $1 million worth of donations.
Though the young girl died in 2017, Turner has since been cleared of her first-degree murder charge after making a plea deal that saw her plead guilty to child abuse, fraud, and theft.
Now, the disgraced mother has been sentenced to 16 years in prison by Judge Patricia Herron.
She was also prohibited from benefiting from her child’s death in any way for the rest of her life.
“Whether that be because of a movie consultation, book consultation or book deals … The order is Ms. Turner shall not, and will not for the rest of her life, be allowed to benefit further financially from this case or the facts connected with this case,” Herron said.
Little Olivia died in 2017 after undergoing a series of unnecessary surgeries and procedures and being forced by her mother to take medications she didn’t need.
The authorities have since discovered that Turner used videos and pictures of her seemingly-sick child to trick the people into making donations and dupe the doctors into believing her false narrative.
While Turner refused to speak during her virtual court appearance, Olivia’s heartbroken grandfather, Lonnie Gautreau, broke into tears as he held a picture of his granddaughter and suggested she should still be alive today.
“This truth about Olivia has caused such a deep pain that it continues to ravage me every day,” Gautreau said.
“If anybody spoke up and protected Olivia, she would be here today.”
