A mother of two was found dead inside a housing project in the Bronx after she texted her family that her boyfriend was ‘acting strangely’ and she feared for her life.
37-year-old Bjana James was found dead at the Betances Houses NYCHA building with a knife stuck in her chest.
The weapon had been wiped clean before it was left inside of the New York casino worker, according to the New York Daily News.
James’ grieving family said that she was last heard from on Wednesday when she sent a message saying her boyfriend was ‘acting strangely and screaming about someone lacing his marijuana.’
“She said, ‘I’m scared. He’s going to kill me!’” her sister said.
The victim’s cousin, Shelly, said James’ boyfriend eventually went back to the apartment.
“(She texted me) ‘He’s here! He’s back!’ and ever since she wrote that we didn’t hear from her again,” she said. “Something wasn’t right, she always replies.”
Her concerned family texted her many times but she did not reply. On Friday night, she was found dead.
“Her brother came first, turned her knob, it was open,” Shelly said. “Thank God her mother didn’t get in. Something just wasn’t right.”
James’ grieving mother, Stacey, said: “I can still hear my daughter talking. My daughter was loved… People really loved my daughter. What could have gotten out of hand in an argument that could not be handled?”
“I’m trying to hold my composure,” Stacey, 61, added. “But I know in some time, I am going to break down.”
James leaves behind two children, an 8-year-old daughter named Maya and a 12-year-old son named Junior. Her children were staying with their grandmother at the time of the incident.
Her cousin said: “She was a loving person. She left her two kids behind. We have to go break the news to her kids. We didn’t think this would happen.”
