A mother and her doctor have been arrested and charged with attempted murder after trying to kill a young disabled girl.
40-year-old mother Michelle Gough and her 47-year-old GP, Pieter Austin, are facing charges after it came to light that they conspired to get rid of Gough’s 6-year-old daughter who is suffering from neurological issues affecting her movements and mobility.
According to the prosecutors, the Australian mother poisoned her daughter with insulin as she tried to end her life. She received the insulin prescription from Austin who allegedly knew of her plans to use the drug on her daughter.
“It will be alleged [the mother] left the appointment with a prescription from the GP to access a drug to be used to end the child’s life, and the GP was aware of the intended use of the drug,” the spokesperson for Western Australia Police said.
The shocking truth came to light days after the child’s health deteriorated after she was injected with insulin.
After immediate treatment, the girl’s condition slowly improved and the doctors discovered that she was poisoned with the prescription drug.
Following the girl’s recovery, both Austin and Gough were arrested and charged with attempted murder. They have been refused bail and will remain in custody until their February 16 hearing.
The attempted murder comes more than five years after Gough pleaded with her community to help her raise funds for her daughter’s expensive treatment.
“[She has] a neurological issue that affects her ability to organize her gross and fine movement patterns,” Gough wrote in a 2016 GoFundMe post.
“She has been unable to learn to move her body voluntarily or effectively, which means she finds it difficult to eat, chew and swallow.
“Holding toys in her hands is mostly impossible without help. When she tries to roll over, push up or become mobile, she has little success and quickly becomes extremely exhausted.”
