A mother died in agony after being poisoned on her birthday.
54-year-old Lindaci Viegas Batista de Carvalho from Brazil was celebrating her birthday when she received a “suspicious” gift including a bouquet and a box of chocolates from an unknown sender.
According to the woman’s family, she initially refused to try the chocolates saying she had been getting threatening texts and calls in the days leading to her birthday.
After her boyfriend joked that the chocolates were from him, however, Lindaci gave them a try only to fall seriously ill just moments later.
The mother’s sister, Lenice Batista, revealed how her sibling’s arms contracted and her eyes rolled back as she collapsed in pain after ingesting the chocolate.
After the 54-year-old was rushed to the hospital in Rio de Janeiro, she was pronounced dead and the police opened an investigation into her suspicious passing.
As the family believes, the chocolates Lindaci received were likely poisoned by the same person that had been sending her threatening messages in the days leading to her death.
While the family doesn’t believe the woman’s boyfriend had anything to do with her untimely death, they shared their suspicions saying his bitter ex-girlfriend could be the killer.
“We suspect that an ex of her current partner is the main suspect. We have evidence of her making threats, a picture of her holding a weapon with a threatening message for my sister,” Batista added.
“It was all very macabre, very premeditated.”
Speaking out was also the delivery driver who insisted he had no idea about the contents of the package.
“I made an innocent delivery, and I am innocent. I have a clear conscience. When I woke up, I saw the report of a lady who died with a bonbon and I thought ‘I made this delivery,’” he said.
The case currently remains under investigation.
