A mother-of-five died in pain after being mauled by two dogs that she was pet sitting at her own home.
46-year-old Trena Peed from North Carolina was mauled to death by two pit bulls whom she was dog-sitting at her home in Greensboro.
According to the reports, the mother attempted to let the dogs out into the backyard at 2 am in the morning when they turned on her, bit her, and dragged her out of the house.
The woman’s screams were heard by concerned neighbors and Trena’s son who was inside the house when the pit bulls attacked.
“It’s dark. All I hear is her yelling and her dogs over there attacking her,” a neighbor recalled.
“It’s terrible. She got mauled to death. That’s terrible. We were real good friends. Her and my wife talked together a lot. We were just friends. It’s terrible, even if I didn’t know her at all, I don’t care who it was.”
While the police were called almost immediately, the mother-of-five was dead by the time she was found by her son.
Following the unexpected dog attack, Waynesha Peed, the victim’s daughter, spoke out and said the family was left in shock after the incident.
“Early this morning, my mom was tragically taken away from us by a vicious attack from dogs. My siblings, grandmother, family, & I are heartbroken at her sudden passing,” she said.
After the police arrived at the scene, one of the dogs behind the attack was immediately shot dead. The other was subdued and remains in the hands of animal control.
As of this writing, the owner of the two animals is yet to be identified. It is not clear if they will face any charges over the horrific attack.
“Whoever the owner is, they need to come forward because they say they love my daughter. This is not showing love for her right now,” Peed’s mother, Helen Harris, said in an interview with WFMY.
