A mother and her baby were hit by a car in a devastating ‘high speed’ crash that also left three others injured.
The two were traveling with another passenger when their car was reportedly struck by another car from behind. The horrific incident happened on Francis Street at West End in Townsville, Queensland, on Sunday.
Photos reveal how the vehicle the mom and baby were in was left bent out of shape due to the impact while the other car crashed through the fence of a home and into another vehicle parked inside the property.
Fortunately, the mother and her baby survived the horrific incident. Witnesses rushed to help and catch the male driver.
Speaking to 7News, Ryan Kelly said: “The guy that was in that car started running away, so a couple of us chased him.”
The Good Samaritans reportedly chased the man down the streets until they finally caught him.
“We were lucky enough to just catch up with him and just held him until the cops arrived,” Kelly continued. “This guy has (allegedly) gone straight through the stop sign and smashed into a young family, so it was a pretty bad act.”
The man, who is in his 30s, was taken to hospital under police guard.
Acting Senior Sergeant Anthony Kirkham said: “There was some injuries in the vehicle that were only minor, but this was a high speed impact.”
According to reports, the man has been charged with driving unregistered, unlicensed driving, possessing dangerous substances, and driving an uninsured car.
