A two-year-old boy has reportedly died after living in a mold-infested rented flat with his family.
According to reports from local media outlets, the victim was identified as Awaab Ishak who passed away in December 2020, leaving loved ones heartbroken and grieving for days.
He was reportedly treated at a local hospital but just two days after his visit, he died as his condition went from bad to worse in no time.
Meanwhile, the coroner ruled that his death was linked to chronic exposure to a fungus and that’s what led to his death in the end.
The reason why this story is so sad is that the family of the victim had pleaded with the doctors and the housing bosses for some help with the issue because he had a lot of trouble breathing.
But just two days later, he was rushed to the hospital as it started to become worse and his loved ones feared for his general well-being.
“My baby passed away just a few days before Christmas in 2020. This was supposed to be our happiest time and it was quickly turned around into a massive period of mourning”- the mother revealed.
Philip Lumb who carried out the devastating post-mortem of the child revealed how he suffered from intense swelling of his airway and his throat. Meanwhile, medical tests went on to prove how there was fungus inside his blood as recently confirmed by the inquest.
The Home Office pathologist mentioned to Rochdale how the exposure to the fungus appeared to be the most plausible explanation or the only explanation linked to his death. Hence, it follows that the death was linked to chronic exposure to the fungus.
The block that he and his family were residing in showed mold growing in all directions and they feared for their health. But no matter how many complaints were made, nothing was resolved and they were forced to deal with the dire matter. But that cost them the life of their little child.
