A former miss Brazil died suddenly at the age of 27 following a routine medical procedure.
27-year-old Gleycy Correia was a model, an entrepreneur, and a beauty queen who won the title of Miss United Continents Brazil in 2018.
According to the reports, the young beauty died at a Macaé hospital on Monday nearly three months after she underwent a routine tonsil operation.
As Correia’s family priest explained in an interview with the Mirror, the beauty queen suffered a brain hemorrhage five days after the procedure.
“She had surgery to remove her tonsils [in late March] and after five days at home, she had a hemorrhage,” Lidiane Alves Oliveira said.
“She went to [the local hospital] Unimed and had a cardiac arrest on April 4,” he added.
Following her heart attack, Correia remained in a coma for more than two months until her passing on Monday.
“Since then she was in a coma, with no neurological activity, and today she passed away,” Oliveira explained.
Correia was an inspirational young model and influencer who was born into a life of poverty in Brazil. She previously opened up about her humble beginnings and her upbringing as she admitted she was “really proud” of her family.
At the age of just 8, the brunette got her first job and started working at a local beauty salon as a manicurist. As she grew older, she started joining pageants and began specializing in permanent makeup while sharing her projects and achievements on social media.
In 2018, Correia was named Miss United Continents Brazil.
“We will never know how strong we are until being strong is the only choice,” she previously said.
“I really wasn’t born in a golden cradle, I’m from a very humble family, but I’m so proud of it, really proud.”
Our thoughts are with Gleycy’s family and friends during these challenging times.
