Michael Strahan’s daughter Isabella has once again opened up about her health battle after revealing she was diagnosed with brain cancer.
On Thursday, the 19-year-old daughter of the American TV personality broke into tears as she revealed she was diagnosed with brain cancer before explaining that the doctors were forced to perform an emergency surgery to remove a golf ball-sized tumor.
During the Friday Good Morning America segment, Isabella once again spoke out about her health battle as she admitted going through the “painful” and “difficult” process of harvesting her eggs to ensure that she has the best chances of having children in the future.
This comes as the teenager is gearing up to undergo months of grueling chemotherapy in a bid to beat the cancer for good.
“It was definitely difficult. The process was, I’m not going to lie, it’s painful, but I got through it,” she said of the fertility preservation process.
“It’s definitely tough but you definitely don’t expect any of this at 18, 19. Definitely a shock.”
Meanwhile, Isabella’s doctor confirmed that her type of tumor was incredibly rare and that there are typically less than ten similar cases yearly in patients her age.
Despite the shocking diagnosis, however, the prognosis remains fairly optimistic now that the growth has been removed.
“There are four types of medulloblastoma, and Isabella has what’s known as a WNT subtype of this. Patients have 90 percent plus survival rates beyond five years and the majority are completely cured. With Isabella, I’m very optimistic that her outcome will be terrific. She is doing fabulously,” Dr. David Ashley said on GMA.
Speaking out was also Isabella’s concerned dad Michael who gushed over his daughter’s strength and determination.
“As far as Isabella, yesterday, it was, something, for her to share that publicly. It just shows she’s lighter, it’s off her chest,” he said.
“Thank everyone for your love, your support – we couldn’t be more thankful. So thank you to everybody out there. Thank you to everyone here. I couldn’t ask to have a better family around me at work and at home.”
