The Duchess of Sussex was not seen when her husband Prince Harry rushed to Balmoral Castle following the heartbreaking news of his grandmother’s death.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl claims that Meghan Markle was not invited to join the grieving family at the estate.
Speaking to ET, Nicholl said: “It’s understood that the family wanted Prince Harry to be there, even though he was unable to get to Balmoral in time to see his grandmother.”
“But Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, was not, we understand, invited to join the family,” the royal expert continued.
“She has said she will go to Balmoral another time. But I think it is quite significant that Prince Harry traveled to Balmoral on his own without his wife.”
The Sussexes were about to attend the WellChild Awards in London. But after it was announced that Her Majesty’s health deteriorated, the couple canceled their appearance and Harry rushed to Scotland.
“I think the pictures that we saw of family members arriving at Balmoral really said it all,” Nicholls told ET. “This is a family in mourning now, and of course, the queen was a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother.”
The duke’s plane landed shorty after the announcement of the Queen’s death was made. He was seen arriving at the royal estate in an SUV, his hand covering a part of his face.
King Charles III, the Queen Consort, and Princess Anne were already in Scotland. Prince William Prince Andrew, Prince Edward his wife Sophie arrived earlier in the day.
Kate Middleton stayed in Windsor and was seen picking up her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Princess Louis from school.
William and Kate, who are now the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge, were seen earlier in the day taking their children to school.
