Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas, has suffered a major stroke that left him unable to speak.
According to TMZ, the 77-year-old was in Tijuana, Mexico, when an ambulance picked him up and rushed him across the border to a hospital in Chula Vista, California.
The incident took place on Monday at around 9.30 pm local time.
According to the reports, Thomas likely suffered a major stroke. He was unable to speak to paramedics and was forced to write his thoughts on a piece of paper.
As of this writing, Mr. Markle remains hospitalized at a California hospital. It is unclear if he has already regained his speech.
According to the latest reports, Thomas is in contact with his friends and family and can express his thoughts via text messages.
The news was confirmed by Samantha Markle, Thomas’s daughter and Meghan Markle’s half-sister, who seemingly blamed the Duchess for her father’s condition.
“My father is recovering in [the] hospital. We ask for privacy for the family, for his health and wellbeing. He just needs peace and rest,” the 57-year-old told Daily Mail.
“It’s a travesty how much he’s been tortured and how much he’s had to go through thanks to my sister’s disregard the past few years. That is unforgivable.”
The incident comes just days before Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, meaning that Thomas won’t be able to fly to England to attend the event as he had allegedly planned.
As of this writing, it remains unclear if Meghan, who cut ties with her father after her royal wedding in the UK, plans on visiting her dad at the hospital.
