The mayor of San Francisco has reportedly declared a state of emergency on Friday after one entire neighborhood became plagued by issues related to drugs and crime.
According to local media reports, mayor London Breed reportedly issued a direct emergency protocol to get rid of bureaucratic barriers as a means to help resolve matters relating to great concern.
The mayor revealed how the state has become infested with issues relating to all sorts of crime as well as drug overdose deaths with figures reaching alarming rates.
In addition to that, the mayor also took this opportunity to put forward her plan, called the Emergency Intervention Plan, for all those hailing from Tenderloin. Mayor London Breed took it as an initiative that she hoped would bring about fruitful results.
“This is being done with one specific aim in mind and that is to eliminate all barriers so that people having issues related to substance abuse could actually receive counseling on an immediate basis, followed by adequate health services as well.
In addition to that, the plan will also include a system that will assist in the safe distribution of Narcan that is a nasal spray that assists in pulling back people who might be suffering from matters related to opioid overdose.
“It’s just not related to homelessness anymore. It’s more about addiction,” the mayor boldly stated during a press conference that took place on Friday. “We are in a crisis and something must be done about it,” she went on to explain.
“We are seeing too many people sprawled out on the streets and we can’t ignore it.”
On average, harrowing reports have shown how at least two people die per day due to overdose, especially due to fentanyl abuse.
Under this new plan, those in need will be given easy and quick access to health services adequately, the mayor promised.
