In the war-ridden city, some 1,200 bodies were so far already retrieved from the rubble, authorities claim. Meanwhile, the locals could be seen digging long trenches in a bid to bury all of the dead.

Red Cross delegation working in the embattled city has since also revealed that people are in desperate need of food, medicine, and supplies, whereas many were left without water, electricity, and basic provisions.

Unable to flee the city due to constant Russian bombarding, some residents have reportedly resorted to attacking each other in a desperate bid to get food.

As Sasha Volkov, the head of the Red Cross delegation in the city, told BBC, “some sort of a black market with vegetables” emerged following the attack on Mariupol.

“We have started to get sick, many of us, because of the humidity and cold that we have. People report varying needs in medicine. Especially for diabetes and cancer patients. But there is no way to find it any more in the city,” Volkov said.

In the last two days, at least eight major strikes on the city were launched by the Russians.

While the Ukrainian authorities attempted to send aid to the city, Putin’s forces have been continuously blocking their efforts and targeting supply routes.

Evacuation of civilians was also made impossible despite Russian promises due to constant violations of ceasefire agreements.

“We try and try and try, but I’m not sure if it’ll be possible today – or other days. Air strikes started from the early morning. Air strike after air strike. All the historic center is under bombardment,” mayor’s advisor, Petro Andrushenko, said.
