A man has been arrested and charged with murder after pushing an innocent woman in front of a moving train.
61-year-old Simon Martial was apprehended by the police on Saturday after shoving an Asian woman in front of an oncoming subway train in Manhattan, New York City, in an unprovoked attack.
According to the reports, the mentally unstable man declared himself ‘God’ after reporters asked him why he had killed the innocent commuter.
“Yeah because I’m God,” he screamed, the Post reported. “Yes I did. I’m God, I can do it.”
Though Martial went on to claim that the victim had stolen his jacket, the police have disputed these claims and confirmed that the attack was unprovoked.
The police have since also revealed that Martial attempted to approach another woman on the subway before she moved away from him.
Following the shocking incident at Times Square, the victim was identified as 40-year-old Michelle Alyssa Go. She was recalled by her family and friends as a “good soul” whom everybody loved.
“Everybody at Ruxton Towers liked her. She was a good soul – a nice person. She didn’t deserve this,” one acquaintance, who chose not to be named, said of the lady from the Upper West Side.
Martial has since been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
As DailyMail.com has revealed, the man has a lengthy rap sheet involving at least robbery convictions. Back in 1998, Martial was charged after threatening to shoot a taxi driver during a robbery.
In 2017, Martial once again faced the court after forcing himself into another person’s car and threatening to shoot them before leaving with $43.
Following his conviction, the man served two years in state prison. He was released from prison in August 2021, just months before committing the murder.
