A man sent a devastating text message to his wife before his lifeless body was discovered in the sea.
According to reports, 55-year-old Gary Jones had left his family home on January 5 to stay in Cheshire. But one day later, he sent his wife of almost 20 years a final text.
His heartbreaking message read: “Please tell everyone that I love them and that I am so so sorry.”
Garry also shared details of where his belongings were before adding: “sorry for everything, love you.”
His family immediately reported him missing but he wasn’t found until March when a catamaran crew noticed his body in the sea.
John Gittins, a senior coroner for North Wales east and central, heard details of the investigation that followed the 55-year-old’s disappearance.
North Wales Police reportedly used number plate recognition software to trace his vehicle traveling towards Towyn in January.
Officers then found Gary’s vehicle parked on St. Asaph Avenue in Colwyn Bay and discovered a handwritten note that read: “I am so sorry for any heartbreak or upset that I have caused or will cause by my actions.”
RNLI teams, coastguard and police conducted a search of the North Wales coast but couldn’t find him.
On March 3, 2022, at around 3:20 pm, Rhyl Coastguard received a call from a crew of Mareel Onyx transfer vessel reporting that they had found a man’s body in the water.
DNA test results confirmed that it was Gary.
An inquest heard that he had visited his doctor with concerns for his mental health before his tragic death.
Garry’s wife said in a statement that an accident at work and the declining health of his father had negatively affected him.
“I suspect that some of the not knowing is worse than the knowing,” the coroner said to the family.
“The only comfort that I can offer is that he was found. It is little degree of solace but I hope it can provide some closure for you.”
