The man who killed a young mother and her son with autism because he thought his condition was contagious has been found guilty of murder.
30-year-old Daniel Boulton pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder charges after stabbing his 26-year-old ex-girlfriend, Bethany Vincent, and her 9-year-old son, Darren Henson, to death.
The horrific attack took place at the woman’s home in Louth, England, where Boulton casually smoked a cigarette after killing the mother and son.
After fleeing from his ex’s house and leaving behind a 9-month-old baby, Boulton led the police on a chase and he wasn’t caught until the next day when he attempted to hijack a car.
Following his arrest, it has come to light that Boulton hated the autistic boy and believed he was just being naughty. He was allegedly also possessive towards his ex-girlfriend and kept on returning to her home after she had already kicked him out.
On the night of the murders, Boulton reportedly forced his way into Vincent’s home before stabbing her repeatedly. He then chased her 9-year-old son up the stairs and killed him as well.
“I guess I wanted to threaten her, I wanted to Romeo and Juliet her, I probably just wanted to kill myself,” Boulton said.
“It was like I wasn’t there, auto-pilot did the job for me. It was like she went into the knife,” he added as he attempted to convince the jury he couldn’t control his actions.
While Boulton attempted to blame his actions on his personality disorder during his trial, his claims were quickly dismissed and the jury found him guilty of double murder after just two hours of deliberations.
“You have been convicted of the brutal murders of Bethany Vincent and her nine-year-old son, Darren Henson. The only sentences I can pass by law are ones of life imprisonment,” Judge Mr Justice Pepperall told the defendant ahead of sentencing.
