A man who was playing a game of Monopoly with his family went directly to jail after a fight erupted and he pulled out a gun.
According to reports, John Ronald Dewayne Armstrong from Tulsa, Oklahoma, became furious and flipped not only the board game but also tables and chairs.
He then chased his stepfather and stepsister down the street as he pointed his gun at them.
Tulsa Police rushed to the scene around 6:30 pm on Saturday after reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they learned that the family members had been consuming alcohol when their board game turned violent.
The woman who called the police said that his stepbrother had chased them down the street with a gun.
The chase reportedly started after the Monopoly board and other furniture were flipped during the argument.
Tulsa Police Department Officer Danny Bean said: “It escalated quickly from family game night to furniture being turned over and game pieces all over the floor.”
While chasing his stepfather and stepsister, Armstrong allegedly pointed the gun at them.
Armstrong explained that he fired a single shot ‘at the ground.’
“He said he was aiming for the ground when he shot them. But we came close to having a homicide over a game of Monopoly,” Bean added.
It is not clear what caused the argument.
“We don’t know if it was about game pieces, play money, real money, but something set him off,” Bean said.
Armstrong was arrested shortly after police arrived on the scene. He was booked into the Tulsa County jail on one count of assault with a deadly weapon, with bond set at $25,000.
“There are no get out of jail free cards in life, and we put the cuffs on him and took him to jail,” Bean continued.
