A man was shot and killed by his own dog after the animal accidentally stepped on his loaded gun.
32-year-old Ozgur Gevrekoglu from Turkey was a father and hunter who adored his pet dogs and took them on hunts with him.
On Sunday, the young man was preparing to leave the Kizlan Plateau in Samsun following a successful weekend hunt when he was shot dead after his dog jumped on a loaded shotgun and accidentally pulled the trigger.
According to the local reports, it is believed that the new father was packing his things in the trunk of his car when the dog jumped inside and landed directly on the shotgun that was pointed at Gevrekoglu.
After the animal’s paw triggered the weapon, the 32-year-old collapsed and died on the spot.
The hunter’s body has since been taken to a local hospital from where it was transported to the capital where it will undergo a post-mortem.
It was later also revealed that Gevrekoglu had become a father just ten days prior to the bizarre incident and that he was a big dog lover with several furry companions.
While the investigation into the man’s passing remains active, no foul play is suspected by the police.
Despite the authorities’ statements, some media outlets suggested the real culprit could be using the man’s dog as an excuse to get away with murder.
While wild rumors continue spreading on the internet, the police maintain that all evidence suggests the death was nothing more than a tragic accident.
