A man tragically passed away after getting sucked into a plane engine at an Alabama airport.
The unidentified victim, who is believed to be a baggage handler working at Montgomery Regional Airport, was allegedly killed by a plane’s engine in a freak New Year Eve’s accident.
According to the reports, the employee was working on the ramp when he was pulled into a running engine when the plane was parked on the tarmac at around 3 pm on Saturday.
The incident came shortly after the aircraft’s scheduled flight to Dallas, Texas.
While the worker has yet to be publicly named, sources confirmed he was a baggage handler and an employee of Piedmont Airlines, an American Airlines regional subsidiary.
Following the horrific incident, the Montgomery Regional Airport was closed for several hours before it was reopened on Saturday night.
The accident currently remains under investigation by the National Transpiration Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
“Today around 3 pm an American Airlines ground crew piedmont employee was involved in a fatality, no additional information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased,” Montgomery Regional Airport announced.
Meanwhile, American Airlines said the company was “devastated by the accident involving a team member.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members. We are focused on ensuring that all involved have the support they need during this difficult time,” their statement read.
