A man who is known to have a ‘career in crime’ has been busted again for lighting a car belonging to a police officer from the New York Police Department.
Local media reports claim that the suspect was identified as 49-year-old Allen Watkins who tried to light the cop’s car on fire, not once but twice in a span of just eight hours.
The career criminal was found to have an astonishing criminal track record that showed at least 60 arrests, prior to this heinous act.
Local police officials claim that the incident took place in Manhattan on Thursday and the accused has been taken into police custody again this month.
The 49-year-old tried to light the car belonging to NYPD Citywide Traffic Task Force, which happened to be located between offices on West 30th Street and between 6th and 7th Avenues, as reported by the police.
Watkins made dire attempts to place a burning rag inside the police car’s gas tank, but thankfully, it failed to ignite on both occasions, preventing a massive explosion from taking place.
The accused was immediately arrested and then charged for arson, right after he was identified on the police’s security camera footage, as revealed by investigators following the case.
Many dubbed the culprit as the firebug as this is certainly not the first time that he tried to blow up the police car that was located in the middle area of Manhattan.
In the month of August this year, the criminal was busted while trying to attempt the same act on another vehicle belonging to the New York Police Department located on 42nd street.
