New footage has emerged showing a man cleaning out his SUV before the abduction and death of billionaire heiress Eliza Fletcher in Memphis.
In the video, 38-year-old Cleotha Abston can be seen driving to his brother’s home at the Longview Gardens apartment complex on Friday morning.
Fletcher, 34, was abducted while jogging near the University of Memphis less than four hours earlier.
The footage shows Abston arriving at the complex. After some time, he got up and went to the trunk of his vehicle.
While searching for the mother-of-two, officers found a body behind a home near the complex.
Authorities confirmed on Tuesday that the body found was that of Fletcher, an heiress to the billion-dollar Orgill hardware fortune.
She is survived by her husband, Richie, and two children.
Mario Abston’s neighbors saw the suspect cleaning out his vehicle and said that he had been acting weird.
After the announcement of the discovery of the kindergarten teacher’s body and new charges against the suspect, Fletcher’s grieving family released a statement.
“Liza was such a joy to so many – her family, friends, colleagues, students, parents, members of her congregation, and everyone who knew her,” it read in part.
The family also thanked state, local and federal enforcement for their efforts in finding Fletcher and apprehending the person responsible.
April Jackson, a neighbor of Mario Abston, said: “It’s emotional, it really hurts. That could have been anybody out jogging that morning, a student, anyone. And he was just released two years ago for another abduction and he gets out and does it again.”
Cleotha Abston was initially charged with especially aggravated kidnapping. He faces additional charges of first-degree murder and first-degree murder in perpetration of kidnapping.
