A man has been arrested on suspicion of killing his own wife and kidnapping their three-year-old daughter.
50-year-old Brent Bockes was arrested in Rutherford County, Tennessee, after killing his wife, 48-year-old Deana ‘Missy’ Bockes, at her home in Sanford, North Carolina.
Following the alleged murder, the father kidnapped their daughter, 3-year-old Riley Bockes, and fled the state.
Fortunately, the young girl has since been rescued by Tennessee police officers, whereas the father was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
On Thursday, one day after the police found Deana dead at her home, the authorities shared a photo of the little Riley enjoying pizza after the successful rescue.
Bockes, who has a lengthy rap sheet involving charges of assault and domestic abuse, is now facing first-degree murder and kidnapping charges.
Meanwhile, Deana’s family spoke out and revealed how the dedicated mother worked two jobs to provide for her kids.
As her mother, Cheryl Brown, added, the relationship her daughter had with Brent was a turbulent one.
“He could be the best guy in the world or he could be the most violent person around,” Brown told WRAL.
She added: “It’s unreal because she’s always been so full of love and full of life … She was private. She didn’t like to bother people with her problems.”
According to Brown, the authorities didn’t immediately reunite the girl with her family when her older sister, 30-year-old Erica, attempted to pick her up.
“They won’t release her to Erica. They were supposed to go to court [Friday], and now they’re saying they don’t know because of the weather and stuff,” Brown claimed.
“They had about three inches of snow, but I don’t understand why they can’t just let [Erica] bring [Riley] home. She needs to be with her family right now — both of them do.”
