Low vocalist and drummer Mimi Parker has passed away at the age of just 55 following a long battle with her illness.
The 55-year-old musician, who founded indie rock band Low together with her husband, Alan Sparhawk, back in 1993, died on Saturday, her band confirmed.
According to the reports, the dedicated singer succumbed to ovarian cancer after battling the unforgiving disease for two years.
“Friends, it’s hard to put the universe into language and into a short message, but she passed away last night, surrounded by family and love, including yours,” Low announced on Twitter.
“Keep her name close and sacred. Share this moment with someone who needs you. Love is indeed the most important thing.”
In a separate statement, her husband added: “There have been difficult days, but your love has sustained us and will continue to lift us through this time.
“Our hearts go out immediately to others in similar situations but who don’t have as many people sending such love and healing wishes. Find someone who is alone who needs a chat and give them your time and love. With tears, we say thank you and hope to see you soon.”
Parker and Sparhawk remained the stone and rock of their low-key band for nearly two decades even though other members came and went throughout the years.
Together, they worked with countless renowned producers and released dozens of indie hits such as What Part of Me, Sunflower, Nothing But Heart, Always Trying to Work It Out, and more.
The band was set for a tour across North America in March 2023.
Parker is survived by her husband and their two children, Cyrus and Hollis. Our thoughts remain with the family during this tragic time.
