A mother and her lover have been accused of murdering a nine-year-old boy after subjecting him to months of cruelty and torture.
According to local media outlets, Alfie Steels was found in the most critical condition by paramedics and the police in 2021. While the paramedics put in due efforts to revive the child with CPR, young Alfie died, moments after he was airlifted from the hospital.
Meanwhile, reports have confirmed how the child’s 34-year-old mother named Carla Scott, and her 39-year-old lover named Dirk Howell will now face trial with charges relating to the boy’s murder.
At the moment, the duo has denied the charges of murder which reportedly took place at the family’s home in Worcestershire.
The severities of the child were of the worst kind, the hearing heard, with cops confirming how the nine-year-old victim was airlifted from the family’s house in February last year.
He was immediately rushed to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital while being in a critical condition. However, he died hours later.
The mother’s partner did admit to behaving in a cruel manner while the mother continues to deny all of the charges placed against her.
Other reports spoke about how the couple has also been accused of ill-treating, neglecting, willfully assaulting, and even abandoning the young child. And in the end, it ultimately leads to his tragic death.
The duo recently appeared via a video link from each of their jail cells so they could take part in the court’s hearing that lasted for a mere 20 minutes at the Crown Court in Worcester.
Alfie was reported to be in a state of great risk relating to physical harm by his mother who caused his death via an unlawful act or failed to behave in an adequate manner by taking necessary steps so she could protect him.
