A note left by a mother who killed her three young children before taking her own life has been revealed.
36-year-old Sonia Loja strangled her children – Jonael Panjon, 5, Joselyn Panjon, 10, and Junior Panjon, 12 – to death before hanging herself in a triple-murder suicide.
Family member Digna Naulaguari told the New York Post that the note read: “Sorry, Pedro I take my kids with me.”
The grieving husband has not finished the two-page letter.
According to reports, Loja had suffered depression and was in distress after she was cited for illegally operating a childcare center.
Naulaguari also revealed that the mother-of-three could not afford mental health treatment and did not have health insurance.
“Her job was baby-sitting, but the city closed her business down, they said it was illegal. She was not working,” the family member said.
“Then she was crying, she was so sad. She would say, ‘I need to work,’ but she had three kids, so she wanted to work from home. She wanted to stay and take care of her kids and the other kids,” Naulaguari went on.
Loja also called her sister to tell her that she had not slept and was experiencing stress. Her sister said that she would visit them but the mother-of-three killed her children and herself two days later.
Speaking to the New York Post, Pedro said: “I feel terrible. There was nothing wrong with how Sonia was acting.”
Pedro new something was wrong when his children did not run out the door to see him. He then found the letter on the kitchen counter.
He found Junior in a bedroom with Joselyn on the bed. Jonael was found in another room with cables around his neck.
The father-of-three tried to remove the cords but it was already too late. He called the police and ran outside to tell a neighbor to speak to the dispatcher.
Pedro “fainted to the ground” after seeing the lifeless bodies of his children.
Neighbor Elvis Espinal told the New York Post: “He called the cops and asked them to do a wellness check and then he came here and he beat the cops here.
“He went inside and like a couple minutes later he came out and he called 911 and just fainted to the ground.”
Chief of Police Patrick Ridenhour said on Wednesday: “’At approximately 6:33 pm officers responded to a well-being check call at 10 Whaley St. The caller was distraught and crying. Upon arrival officers went inside the single family residence and discovered three deceased persons, all juveniles.
“While conducting a further check of the premises they found a deceased female in a shed in the backyard.”
