This heartbreaking story is an example of the brutal reality of wars but at the same time, it’s one woman’s courage to never give up hope, no matter how challenging life may become.
23-year-old Oksana says she was working as a nurse in her war-torn nation of Ukraine but one incident changed her life forever.
The young paramedic was caught in the midst of a mine explosion aimed by Russians at innocent civilians and in that tragedy, she lost both of her legs. With her marriage to the love of her life due soon, plenty of negative thoughts came across her mind. But there was not one moment where she lost hope or the will to carry on.
Instead, this brave woman picked herself up from where she left off and decided to accept her fate, being extremely blessed to have survived the devastating attack that could have killed her.
Now, viral and heartwarming footage is making its way on social media, featuring her taking part in the first dance of her own wedding that was recently held at a hospital in Lviv.
“I was with my partner by my side on March 23. And then all of a sudden, I had no idea that there would be mine traps lying on the ground in front of me. I stepped on one of them and that’s it. A mighty blast took me in and the next thing I knew, I was told by doctors that I had lost both of my legs”- she continued in an emotional tone.
Doctors treating Oksana say her injuries were so critical. Moreover, she had even lost two of her fingers and it’s an absolute miracle that she is alive today, they explained.
The nurse has undergone a total of four surgeries and was evacuated to Lviv last week. She is doing much better and is now married to the love of her life, who says he’s so glad she’s a part of his life forever now.
