At least 160 people were recently killed when a massive earthquake struck Indonesia today.
According to reports from local media outlets, tremors were felt as far as 75km away. The exact location is defined as West Java which is stated to be near the country’s capital city of Jakarta.
The exact magnitude of the earthquake was outlined to be 5.6 on the Richter scale. Moreover, the Cianjur region was highlighted to be the epicenter of it.
The casualties included the deaths of at least 160 people but authorities fear this figure might increase. Moreover, nearly 700 people were described to have been injured in the incident too.
A state of emergency was recently declared in the country after the terrifying news broke out with rescue and relief efforts underway. Moreover, so many buildings became leveled as paramedics could be witnessed giving first aid to injured locals amid heartbreaking scenes of the natural catastrophe.
Some witnesses mentioned how tall skyscrapers and high-rise buildings were shaking when the earthquake struck the region and it lasted for a good three minutes.
In the same way, so many were even evacuated due to more fears of structural damage taking place.
The current death toll could increase as a total of four hospitals are now dealing with the catastrophe with more and more victims being brought in each hour.
One employee could be seen giving an interview and mentioning how the earthquake was very strong and scary. He feared for his life and those around him in the surrounding.
Meanwhile, the country’s weather and geophysics agency revealed how a total of 25 aftershocks had been felt and that instilled more fear and panic among the locals.
