The heartbreaking words of an 8-year-old girl who died after a horrific terror attack have been revealed during an inquiry.
Little Saffie-Rose Roussos, 8, never felt more excited than on the day she attended an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena in England back in May 2017.
The “night of her life,” however, turned into a nightmare after terrorist Salman Abedi detonated a bomb and caused an explosion that killed 22 people and injured many more.
As it was reported, Saffie, who was the youngest of victims, suffered severe shrapnel wounds and blood loss during the explosion.
After the incident, the young girl had to wait almost one hour before an ambulance was finally available to take her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead just minutes later.
Recalling the heartbreaking moment Saffie was fighting for her life at the back of an ambulance, paramedic Gillian Yates said she did her best to reassure the child that she would be alright despite the extent of her injuries.
“I tried to reassure her but when people ask this question it is a bad sign as it is usually asked by people who are really ill, and the fact she was asking it concerned me greatly,” she said during a public inquiry.
The paramedic went on to reveal the girl’s distressing last words. “Am I going to die?” the terrified child allegedly asked before she stopped responding.
Yates’ colleague, medical technician Gemma Littler, went on to admit that she knew the poor child wouldn’t last long after seeing her wounds. Nevertheless, she tried her best to comfort her while on the way to the hospital.
“I reassured her she was safe, that we were going to hospital and we would look after her. I did what I could for her. I reassured her as much as I could even when she asked me if she was going to die,” Littler said.
“I responded in what I hope is the most reassuring way possible for her to hear.”
Following the tragic event, Saffie’s family revealed that the girl had never been more excited in her short life than on the day of the concert.
“She was elated. She partied the night away and she was in her element,” sister Ashlee Bromwich said as she revealed that Saffie was having the night of her life.
Our thoughts remain with Saffie’s family and the families of all of the victims.
