Cheers and Drop Dead Gorgeous star Kirstie Alley has passed away on Monday, her family confirmed.
The beloved American actress, who was best known for her appearance in Cheers, Look Who’s Talking, and Drop Dead Gorgeous, has passed away at the age of 71 following a battle with cancer.
According to her children Lillie and True Parker, Kirstie “fought with great strength” after finding out about her illness just recently.
In a joint family statement, Kirstie’s children wrote: “We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.
“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
The family went on to thank the Hollywood star’s team of doctors and nurses who looked after her and provided whatever care they could.
“Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did,” the tribute continued.
“We thank you for your love and prayers and ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.”
Kirstie Alley was arguably best known for her role as Rebecca Howe in the NBC sitcom Cheers from the year 1987 to 1993. In 1991, the actress also received an Emmy Award for the mentioned role.
