Jerry Springer had passed away at the age of 79, his family announced on Thursday.
The legendary TV host died peacefully at his Chicago home after a short battle with his illness. Sources have since confirmed that the Jerry Springer Show host succumbed to pancreatic cancer.
The news was confirmed by Jean Galvin, Jerry’s longtime friend and representative who told E! News that the sudden demise came after what his family described as a brief illness.
“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” Galvin said.
“He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.”
Springer’s downfall came shortly after the beloved host stepped down from his latest NBCUniversal show Judge Jerry.
“I don’t have to make a living. I want to enjoy life,” he said at the time.
Since Springer’s death, thousands of entertainment figures and fans flooded social media with tributes to the “one of a lifetime” TV presenter.
Among them was Jerry’s friend David Hasselhoff who wrote: “I never thought I would lose a special friend who actually subbed for me as Captain Hook in the Wimbledon pantomime. He was a terrific, terrific person and I am saddened by his passing. What becomes of a broken heart?”
Piers Morgan added: “Jeez, this sucks. TV icon & such an intelligent, warm, funny man. Loved working with him (on America’s Got Talent), loved hanging out with him (we lived in same hotel for 2yrs), loved arguing with him (he loved his politics), loved everything about him. Gutting.”
Speaking out was also former FOX host Megyn Kelly who credited the host for his “deep love for America.”
“He came on my show shortly after we launched and told the best stories about his fascinating life and his deep love for America,” she said.
