Jane Fonda has once again managed to raise eyebrows as she suggested she wouldn’t want to date a man older than 20.
The 85-year-old controversial actress and activist has opened up about dating in the 80s in a podcast interview for Absolutely Not with Heather McMahan.
Speaking without any filters, Fonda said her lover would “have to be 20” while admitting she felt ashamed to say this.
“Because I don’t like old skin,” she added after McMahan asked her to elaborate. While the crew in the studio appeared to burst into laughter, Fonda seemed quite serious as she doubled down on her stance saying “I don’t!”
The comments quickly went viral on the internet where they were met with criticism and praise alike.
“Y’all are not about to try and cancel Jane plz. She’s being funny,” someone wrote in her defense.
“Thank you for being honest like always, there’s nothing wrong with having your own preferences and sticking to them like you do,” another said.
A third pondered: “Why is it okay for old rich men to have younger lovers but when a woman does it everyone goes nuts?”
Not everyone, however, was thrilled by Jane’s comments with some branding her as “creepy” and “weird.”
“Imagine it was the other way around and an 85-year-old man said that. He’d be canceled for the rest of his life,” someone wrote.
“I mean I understand her but it’s just weird and creepy to say it out loud in front of a camera like that,” another argued.
The interview comes shortly after the actress insisted she feels younger at 85 than she did at 84 as she continues her pursuit of “becoming young.”
“Young, [as in] light, not feeling a great burden on my shoulders. Learning how to be present, learning how to accept what comes, learning that we don’t have any control… something bad will happen, been there, done that and I survived,” she told Stellar Magazine last year.
