A terrifying tragedy has taken place in Turkey this morning where at least sixteen people were declared dead on the spot including first responders and two journalists.
According to local media outlets, one of the buses veered off the road into embarkments at about 10:45 in the morning.
After that, a second bus was seen crashing just 200 meters behind them, after which it slid into responders at the sight of the initial scene.
The victims included firefighters, civilians, journalists, and other staff from paramedics too, sources added. Meanwhile, the country’s President was seen offering his heartfelt condolences on the matter.
The exact location of the crash was identified to be a road situated between Gaziantep and Nizip, which is present in the southeastern province of Gaziantep.
The country’s interior minister confirmed the heartbreaking news with the following statement, “While the firefighters, medical teams, and other colleagues happened to be at the sight of the crime, another bus came and crashed just 200 meters behind.”
It was further detailed how the second bus managed to slide to this site and then ram into the first responders and other wounded people on the ground.
The area’s governor explained on Twitter that around 22 people were injured in the tragedy. Since then, he has been making rounds to hospitals to visit the injured and those affected by the tragedy.
Turkey’s president also released a statement on the matter, “I pray God’s mercy on our citizens who lost their lives in the accident and wish a speedy recovery to those injured. So sorry for your loss!”
