A 42-year-old man battered his wife’s face after he caught her in bed with their neighbor, a court has heard.
Reports revealed how Jason Heathcote followed his wife Ceri into their neighbor’s home in the middle of the night and found them in his bedroom.
The furious husband shouted: “You f*****g slag you f*****g b*tch, you horrible wh*re!” before he jumped on John Richardson’s bed and repeatedly punched her.
Richardson shouted “It’s not what you think!” but Heathcote refused to stop, leaving Mrs. Heathcote with ‘significant’ swelling to the left side of her face.
The wife later denied any wrongdoing and said that he had ‘lost the plot.’
Heathcote was ordered by the court to pay his wife £500 ($542) compensation after pleading guilty to assault.
The incident happened after the husband started receiving text messages from Mr. Richardson’s ex-partner saying: “Keep your wife away from my house, she’s left my house at 4:30 in the morning.”
But after being confronted, Mrs. Heathcote denied the allegations.
On June 25, she had been drinking with friends and her husband joined them before going back home.
“She cannot recall how long Jason had stayed with them but at around 11.50 pm she left her friend’s house to go to another friend’s house,” said Michael O’Kane, prosecuting.
“She has known him for about four years and she is good friends with him. His door was unlocked and she went upstairs to find John who was asleep. She would not normally enter uninvited but as she was a close friend she let herself in.”
Mr. O’Kane said that when Heathcote finally stopped the attack and left the bedroom, she was “shocked and absolutely numb.”
“She said her face was hurting. She thinks that John spoke with him. She cannot remember.”
Heathcote, who broke down in tears during the police interview, said that when he saw his wife with his friend, he “had a meltdown” and “lost the plot,” adding that he “had never hit a woman before.”
He was sentenced to 52 weeks imprisonment suspended for 18 months.
Heathcote was also ordered to undertake 200 hours of unpaid work and complete a ‘Building Better Relationships’ rehabilitation program.
“Whatever was going on in your head about what you saw, your response was completely wrong. You jumped on that bed and repeatedly punched her to the face leaving her face looking a proper mess,” District judge John McGarva said.
