A mother and father left their three children without a parent after dying just hours apart.
52-year-old Wendy Hawkins and 58-year-old Steve Hawkins from South Dakota both died of different forms of cancer just two days before Christmas.
According to their three kids, who are both in their 20s, the couple was in the same hospital in their final moments.
While Wendy succumbed to what was described as a short illness, Steve had been fighting cancer for several years. It is currently unclear what type of cancer they were suffering from.
As the couple’s son, Trenton, revealed, his parents were “wonderful” people who took good care of his family.
“Hey everyone, this is Trenton Hawkins and my parents both died to cancer on 12/23/22 within 12 hours of each other,” Trenton wrote in a statement as he launched a GoFundMe page to raise funds for funeral expenses.
“This has been a very tragic experience and my family and I are trying to come up with the funds to pay for two funerals. They were wonderful parents and took very good care of their family and I am trying to take care of them. So, every little bit helps thank you for your support.”
Meanwhile, Steve’s sister, Kathy Hawkins-LaFollette, branded her brother and his wife as true soulmates.
“For their kids to lose them at such a young age. I can’t even imagine,” she said.
Kathy went on to say that Steve and Wendy died just ten hours apart at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.
Our thoughts are with Wendy and Steve’s family and friends during this challenging time.
