The husband of the woman who was killed in a freak accident when a sign crushed her car has passed away just days after his wife’s death.
On Thursday, 72-year-old Lillian Curtis from Kentucky was crushed to death after a 2,600-pound Denny’s sign collapsed due to strong winds and crushed their car while they were in a parking lot.
According to the reports, the elderly woman died on the scene just moments after picking up her husband, 77-year-old Lloyd Curtis, from hospice care.
Her daughter Mary Graham, who was in the driver’s seat at the time of the accident, suffered broken ribs and a concussion and currently remains in the hospital.
As the couple’s family revealed, Lloyd was suffering from a heart condition and had just undergone major surgery prior to the incident.
Now, just a week after the tragic accident, Lloyd has passed away.
“He told the hospice nurse last night when she asked him what he wanted, and he said: ‘My wife back’, and now he is dancing with Nanny,” Amy Nichols, the couple’s granddaughter, said.
Nichols also said the family is determined to get more answers as she revealed they will hold a joint funeral for Lloyd and Lillian.
“It’s definitely not something you can truly wrap your mind around,” Graham’s daughter, Mary Howard, said in an interview with KVUE.
“I don’t know that the shock has worn off – or the fact that we’re going to go home and life is going to continue without her.”
Meanwhile, Denny issued a short statement in which they suggested the incident is being investigated.
“Safety is our top priority, and we are working with the authorities to better understand what led to this situation. Our thoughts are with all of those involved,” the company said.
