A 14-year-old boy died from stab wounds to his head and neck after being attacked by a homeless man with a long rap sheet.
The body of Florida boy Ryan Rogers, 14, was found near an Interstate 95 overpass on November 15 after 39-year-old Semmie Lee Williams allegedly stabbed him in the neck and head multiple times.
According to the authorities, the attack was completely unprovoked, and they were unable to find any motive for the brutal murder of the high school freshman.
Now, Palm Beach Gardens Chief Clinton Shannon confirmed that Williams was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
“This appears to be a completely random act. We do not have a motive. I would best describe it as an innocent child victim having a chance encounter with a very violent criminal,” the chief said.
As per court records, Williams denied ever coming across the boy even though his DNA was found on the headphones recovered from the scene and Rogers’ blood was discovered on the man’s bandana.
It has since also come to light that Williams previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault by strangulation after a random attack on an elderly person.
Back in 2014, Williams sneaked up on a senior man before putting him in a chokehold, beating him, and throwing him into a ravine.
After the horrific attack, the perpetrator ran away from the scene, leaving the elderly man fighting for his life. As the victim insisted, Williams didn’t want any money from him.
“He said no. He knows my kind and he is going to finish me. I’m lucky to be alive. The intent was to kill me,” the senior told the court.
Following the 2014 attack, court procedures were delayed due to Williams being declared mentally incompetent. He later served four years in prison and a mental hospital.
Following his release, Williams was ordered to leave Georgia and go live with his mother in Florida where he was set to serve five years probation.
Besides the murder of Ryan Rogers and the 2014 aggravated assault, Williams has a long rap sheet involving charges of domestic violence, petty theft, resisting arrest, and more.
