A woman from Australia is left battling for her life after her cosmetic procedure went horribly wrong.
According to local media reports, the victim has been identified as 29-year-old Brenna McIntosh who wished to get rid of her bulky and loose belly fat after losing nearly 90 pounds. But little did she know about the horrors attached to this cosmetic surgery.
After undergoing her routine surgery called the abdominoplasty, Perth Now reported how the victim contracted a deadly infection.
At first, sources revealed how it went without a hitch but within no time, the woman’s condition began to deteriorate faster than expected.
She started to feel so unwell all of a sudden, and that is about eight days after she underwent her surgery.
At first, doctors underestimated her infection and for that reason, they just gave her the usual routine antibiotics but within a short span of time, her health took a turn for the worst.
Soon, a senior surgeon was able to identify her condition as necrotizing fasciitis which is a rare but very detrimental flesh-eating infection.
This is known to drastically affect all the tissue surrounding the skin and organs, as well as the muscles.
Sources added that she is currently under strict observation and has been in an induced coma at the Alfred Hospital.
Perth Now revealed how the case is so rare that there is only a single one, other than this, that has been reported.
At the moment, the young woman is undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy which is a proven treatment that speeds up the healing process in severe infections as it provides oxygen to tissues that have been deprived of it.
The patient’s friend has launched a GoFundMe to help recover the loss of income due to her condition, adding how she would also be needing plenty of time to recover after coming back to a stabilized state.
